Dr. Benjamin Gates is a lifelong resident of the Richmond area and grew up in Chesterfield County attending Monacan High School. He graduated Cum Laude from Hampden-Sydney College, near Farmville, Virginia, majoring in history and economics. Thereafter, he earned a master’s degree in history from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
Ben first became inspired to become an optometrist when receiving his own annual contact lens exam. He realized that by taking a few more classes, he could get into optometry school. He enrolled as a part-time student at VCU to take these classes. He graduated in 2010 as an optometrist from the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Benjamin Gates moved back to Richmond, where he has been practicing as a Board-Certified Optometrist ever since.
